You aren't home, and your house is being burgled. Thieves forced your back door open and are helping themselves to everything they can carry. You have a burglar alarm and it's screaming. It even has a flashing blue light to attract attention, but everyone on your street is ignoring it because...well... alarms go off all the time.
It struck us that there are already technologies that could be used to change this scenario.Your broadband is always on, even when you're not reading email, IM'ing, or watching YouTube videos of cats. Why not use this communication line for more? Also, you have a mobile phone and carry it with you all the time. Why not then connect the home to your phone?.
So we've built some clever, people-friendly technology to work with what you already have. Wireless sensors can detect what's happening in your home.
Then an intelligent hub can send you or your friends a message about the event.
If you had received such an alert you could have called the police immediately. Or phoned your neighbour who works from home to have him safely check it out and confirm the problem or instead clear it if it's a false alarm.
We called the whole idea 'AlertMe'.
AlertMe has lots of uses that help people be more aware of what's happening in the home, particularly when they're not at home.
Maybe the oven has been left on. Perhaps your teenage daughter isn't home when she promised to be.
The possibilities are endless.
