AlertMe announces Open Standards Controls Platform for the Smart Home and Partnership with Deutsche Telekom

London, 26 September 2011. AlertMe, the Smart Home technology company, today announces the development of an open standards (OSGi) controls platform and a partnership with Deutsche Telekom, Germany’s largest telecommunications company, to develop a set of home management applications for its Smart Connect platform. The partnership with Deutsche Telekom represents the first tier-one European Telco partnership for AlertMe and follows the announcement of its strategic partnership and commercial agreement with the UK’s largest utility British Gas, worth over £20 million in product and services delivery.

The AlertMe OSGi platform has the capability to address and adopt the widest range of devices and applications in the home, independent of their manufacturer or communications technology. In addition, an open, intelligent and expandable controls platform can deliver real value for partners, enabling faster and more cost effective deployment and the ability to roll out their own devices, applications and services. For device/appliance manufacturers it means they can connect to a standards-based platform rather than building their own.

For consumers it offers greater choice and flexibility of devices and the ability to control everything in their home from a single online interface rather than logging into multiple portals.  It also enables the configuration of devices and appliances in the home and automation that allows devices to work together intelligently through Machine-to-Machine communication (M2M).

Mary Turner CEO of AlertMe says: “The consumer is at the heart of the Smart Home so providing an affordable, seamless and easy-to-use experience is essential if it is to become a mass market offer.  With a heritage of making the complex simple, Deutsche Telekom has a real opportunity to lead and provide the market with an open, inclusive and versatile system that brings everything together effortlessly.”

Holger Knöpke, Head of Connected Home at Deutsche Telekom says ‘Together with our partners, we aim to lay the foundations of the connected home of the future. We focus on making everyday life easier and at the same time on fulfilling the demand of consumers on ecological aspects and costs.”

The market for Smart Homes and internet connected devices is predicted to take off over the next four years. Analysts OnWorld predicts 2.5 million smart appliances globally by 2014 and on 1 June 2011 at its 5th Annual Trends Forum Cisco forecast that the number of internet connected devices is set to explode to over 15 billion in the next four years.
